Ensuring an accurate declared goods value on the Invoice is a key elements Customs Authorities across the world are increasing the scrutiny regarding the declared value of goods - for example, on goods imported into the European Union. The main reason for such is that Customs Authorities want to ensure full collection of Customs Duties & VAT, and therefore ensuring an accurate declared goods value on the Invoice is a key element. In case of a suspected undervalued shipment, Customs Authorities will request to approach the customer to request a proof that the value on the Invoice is accurate (i.e. a receipt of the transaction between the seller & buyer), and provide such to Customs.
